DIY Flux Cumulus Node after the halving 2022

Starting march 2022 one cumulus Flux node only needs 1000 FLUX as collateral. But the hardware requirements are a lot higher. The Raspberry Pi 4 with 8GB is barely able to run the node. When you plug in a slow external USB SSD it might not work. Some people on the Discord wrote, that the benchmark sometimes fail on the Raspberry.

A good alternative is the Beelink Mini. It’s just a little bit more expensive than the Pi. It might be even cheaper when bought via socialgood from aliexpress. Socialgood offers a 100% crypto cashback (as of writing) for orders on aliexpress

Here is the benchmark result from the testnet for the Beelink. I bought the 256GB and had to add another SSD. Fortunately the Beelink has a free SATA slot.

I followed the official YouTube video on how to setup the node on a PI. There is only one change needed when using an internal secondary SSD instead of the USB SSD for the PI.

Running a Flix Node on a Raspberry Pi

To mount the SSD on startup run

nano /etc/fstab

And enter

UUID=REPLACE_YOUR_ID       /media/ssd      ext4    defaults       0 1

After you setup your device and followed the instructions in the YouTube video, you will see the rewards coming in.
